Description

Learn how to make nourishing Bone Broth with Chicken Feet at home with all my best tips! This easy recipe is a simple combination of nutrient-rich ingredients, including chicken feet, which is the trick to a gelatinous, nutritious and gut healing bone broth. Enjoy it on its own or use it as a base for soups and stews!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 lbs chicken bones like chicken backs, or rotisserie chicken bones
  • 1 1/2 lb chicken feet
  • 6 stalks celery
  • 4 carrots
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 8–10 cups filtered water
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Place the chicken bones and chicken feet in a large stockpot. Add the carrots, celery, and onion to the pot.
  2. Pour 8 cups of filtered water into the pot, ensuring all the ingredients are covered. Add sea salt and apple cider vinegar.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently for 2-12 hours. Skim off any foam that rises to the surface during cooking. The longer the cook time the richer the broth.
  4. Once the broth is done, remove the bones and vegetables. Strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl.
  5. Allow the broth to cool to room temperature, then store it in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or freeze for longer storage.

Notes

  • Storing in the refrigerator: Transfer the bone broth to an airtight container and place in the fridge for up to about 5 days.
  • To freeze: You can store bone broth in the freezer for up to 6 months. It’s a good idea to separate it into smaller portions before freezing it, so then you can just grab what you need.
  • Reheating: Reheat gently on a low simmer on the stove or in the microwave. Be sure not to boil it!
